Church leaders are always told there's a new tool or trend they "have to" adopt — this newsletter cuts through the noise with a straight answer on what's actually worth your time. One trend, one verdict, and one step you can take this week. Let’s go.

Automated Visitor Follow-Up

A first-time visitor takes the leap, fills out a connection card, and hands it in — and then, more often than anyone wants to admit, it sits in a spreadsheet until someone remembers to follow up. Here's the fix that's becoming standard.

Trend, Translation, Verdict & One Move

The Trend
Church management platforms are increasingly automating the moment a connection card is submitted — triggering a follow-up email or text immediately instead of waiting on a staff member or volunteer to notice it, remember it, and act on it. What used to depend on someone's memory now happens the moment the form is submitted.

The Translation
This isn't really a technology problem being solved — it's a ministry problem. Every visitor who slips through the cracks isn't a data-entry failure, it's a missed relationship at the exact moment someone was open to one. Automation doesn't replace the human follow-up; it guarantees the first touch happens on time, every time, so the human part isn't racing against a forgotten form.

Verdict: Worth It
This is about as close to a universal yes as this category gets. The failure mode it fixes — a warm visitor going cold because nobody got to them in time — is common, costly, and entirely preventable with a tool most platforms already offer or can add cheaply.

One Move
Ask whoever handles connection cards right now: how long, on average, does it take a first-time visitor to hear back? If nobody has a confident answer, that's your sign this needs automating before anything else on your tech wishlist.

Until next week,
