Church leaders are always told there's a new tool or trend they "have to" adopt — this newsletter cuts through the noise with a straight answer on what's actually worth your time. One trend, one verdict, and one step you can take this week. Let’s go.

What Your ChMS Can See That You Can’t

Somewhere in your church's database is a small group that's quietly thriving, another that's quietly dying, and a giving trend that's been building for months — all invisible, not because the data isn't there, but because nobody has time to go looking for it.

Trend, Translation, Verdict & One Move

The Trend
Modern ChMS platforms have moved past simple attendance counts into real analytics — surfacing giving trends over time, flagging which small groups are thriving or struggling, and catching attendance drops early enough to actually do something about them. The data was always technically available; what's new is software doing the digging instead of a person.

The Translation
This isn't about running your church like a business — it's about not being the last to know something your own records already show. A giving dip three months before it becomes a budget problem, or a small group losing members for two straight months before anyone mentions it out loud — these are pastoral and practical situations your team would want to know about early, not patterns to chase for their own sake.

Verdict: Worth It — with a clear boundary
Turning on analytics your platform already offers costs you nothing but a decision to look. The boundary worth setting up front: these numbers exist to prompt a conversation or a check-in, not to replace one. A flagged attendance drop should lead to a phone call, not a spreadsheet review.

One Move
Open whatever reporting or analytics tab your current ChMS already has — most platforms include one you've never opened. Spend ten minutes this week just looking, before deciding whether you need a new tool at all.

Until next week,
